Is it possible to create multiple instances of a same test in an execution ?

Vincent MASSIP June 14, 2016

Hi there,
As 'old' Quality Center users, we used to have the possibility to add one test several times in a testset.
QC call this 'Test Instance' and add a number to these tests in order to differenciate them.
Is it possible to do the same within XRay ?
I've tried to add twice the same test in a testset or in an execution and it was impossible.
More over, when we add testsets, that contain the same test, to an execution, the excution is just updated with one test. And no message explains us the 'logic'.
If it's not possible, can you give a way to manage this kind of need in XRay ?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards.

Hi Vincent,

Thank you for using Xray for JIRA.

A Test in Xray is actually a template for how we want to test a requirement. Then we create a Test Execution to actually perform testing. We recommend that each concret execution of a Test corresponds to a Test Execution.

We are working on a solution for having the same Test executed independently for each environment, is it your case?

Also, the next feature release of Xray will provide the concept of a Test Plan where you can see the grouped results of multiple Test Execution issues.

Best regards,
