How to covert workflow between Agile Boards and converting data from Agile board into Kanban board?

Matt Whalen October 26, 2017

We are in the process of combining two of our Agile boards into one. Each of the Agile boards contain different work flows, and I need to know how to convert a workflow.

But after that, is there a way to convert all the data from an Agile board --> Kanban board whilst maintaining a copy of the original Agile board?

We would like to have a Kanban board work in conjunction with our Agile board.

"Would you be able to do some research on Atlassian’s website to see how / if we can convert a user story’s workflow to a different workflow and how to do that?  Basically the existing user stories that were created are using a certain workflow and if we switch to a Kanban board the user stories do not appear on the Kanban board because the Kanban uses a different workflow."

Take a step back - your users seem to be confused about workflows, projects and boards.

Boards are a view of issues.   They do not contain issues or workflows or projects or anything else, they're just a view.  Or window on to a data-set.

To combine two boards, you need to do two basic things (there's often other things to do to, but these two are the only essential ones):

  • Edit the filter for the board so it includes both sets of issue that were being selected by the old separate filters
  • Modify the column mappings, so that they include any new status that may be drawn in by the new filters

You don't need to convert or change anything.  Just create a new board that selects for the combined set of issues you want.
