Do we know of any documentation of the structuring attachment storage

rohit agarwal March 26, 2020

Hello there! reader

I am looking to understand how attachments are structured on the JIRA attachment home directory during storage. Does anyone in their past experience has explored to see how JIRA issues are structured? or can guide me with some documentation around it?

by structure, I mean, I want to seek information on how JIRA creates issue-based folder or any other logical hierarchical structure to store an attachment. I am not too worried about the attachment itself but, the hierarchy

Thanks,

Rohit

Hi Rohit,

I see that you are looking to understand how Jira Server is storing attachments.  I recommend checking out the KB we have over in Locate Jira server file attachments in the filesystem.  It has some details about how Jira organizes these files.

Jira 7.0 was the last major change to this format.  The KB notes the current and the old format in it.  In the current versions (7.0 and higher) Jira is storing these files in a format of

$JIRAHOME/data/attachments/<PROJECT>/<BUCKET>/<ISSUE_ID>/<ID>

Let me know if have any questions about this.

Andy
