I am exploring jira and bitbucket integration.I was able to create feature branches from my development branch for individual stories and work on them

I want to see if I can create a release branch from jira  and ensure that all the stories tagged for release has have all the commits corresponding to them in the release branch.

Please let me know, I was able to create release version in jira and tag the stories for a particular release but unable to find an option to create release branch

Hi Santosh,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

The way the integration works when it comes to create branch is that from a Jira issue you can initiate the branch creation, and Bitbucket will try and match the issue type to the branch type. But you also have to option to select the branch type yourself.

So if you want to create the release branch from within Jira you need to have a corresponding issue for the release. You cannot create a branch based on the version.

Why not? This would be a fantastic feature.

@Peter Zerfahs I guess it depends on your environment if that would be a fantastic feature or not. I know in my environment it would not be of any use since all our changes are made against an issue, not a release branch.

I did a search and someone already logged a feature request for it, JSWSERVER-19764, so go and vote for it if you would like to see it implemented.
