Can JIRA do "embedded" task lists like GitHub Issues?

1 answer

Something close to this is a 'Sub-Task' issue type which will be displayed on a parent issue with status of each with a check icon if it's done. Try it and see if it works for you.

We don't have Sub-Task issue type in our setup so that's not an option. Anyway, I'm looking for something very lightweight, like the referenced GitHub or Bitbucket (BB has lightweight tasks in pull requests).

That is a separate field. What GitHub / Bitbucket provide is the ability to put checkboxes right in the main text.

Where exactly do you want these checkboxes to appear in a JIRA ticket? What do you mean by main text?

Please go check the link in the OP, there is a good example of what I'm after.

I saw that post, I have github and I am extensively using this 'embedded task list' feature in Stash. Where do you want this to appear in a JIRA ticket? What main text?

Description & comments.

Nothing like that. The closest you can get is the "check" icon. Take a look at JIRA Wiki Renderer ( It's not interactive at all and updating it means updating the source description/comment itself. Task one (/) Task two (X) Task three (!) Task four (/) Task five (/)
