My team needs a way to be notified when a task blocking their task has been complete, thus opening up their task for execution.

We're a Marketing team of about 20 people and operate in waterfall project management, so dependencies are super important for us.

Hello @Zoe Mitchell

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Are you working with Jira Cloud or Jira Server/Data Center? If your URL is https://something.atlassian.net then you are probably working with Jira Cloud.

With Jira Cloud it is definitely possible to set this up using the Automation for Jira functionality. However, there are limits on how many Automation Rule executions are available in a month, depending on the subscription plan you are on. Refer to https://www.atlassian.com/blog/announcements/cloud-automation-packaging-update

Here is an example of what the rule might be:

The Send Email action would have to be executed in order for this rule to count as executed.

@Trudy Claspill Thank you so much! This was exactly what I was looking for and it worked like a charm. Thank you for also mentioning the limits on total amount of automation. That's a good thing to keep in mind as I work on setting this up.
