Roadmap not showing child issues

Stig Marius Rånes-Opdal February 1, 2021

Does the Kanban Board have to include other types of issues in order for child issues to appear in the roadmap? Ours is currently only displaying Epics.

Hello @Stig Marius Rånes-Opdal,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

The Roadmap currently, shows only Epics. Other issue types will show as well, but only if they are a child issue of an Epic.

There is a feature request suggesting improvements for that:

Please, click on vote and watch to receive updates.

For more details about how to configure a roadmap, please check the documentation below:

Kind regards,
Angélica

My problem is that my Epics have child issues within the same project, but they are not being displayed in the Roadmap. The board the Roadmap is connected to has a filter that only displays Epics (project = EP AND issuetype = Epic AND Labels != Risks ORDER BY Rank ASC) Is this filter the reason why I'm not seeing any child issues in the Roadmap?

Hi @Stig Marius Rånes-Opdal,

Thank you for the details and for sharing the filter.

I tested here on my local site and it will show only Epics without any child issues.

Once I removed the "and issuetype = Epic", the child issues became visible on the Roadmap.

Please, change the filter of your board and test again.

If you face any issues or have any other questions regarding this matter, please let us know.

That was the key! Thank you - now we just need to clean up our status use to keep the kanban free of other issues than Epics (but that is a different challenge :D)

Hi Angelica,

unfortunately I don't understand where to remove "and iussetype=Epic"

I have only a filter Type to show/hide Task and Story.

Nothing to show Child Issues on Road Map

Please could you point me how to show also Child Iusses on Road Map OR

how to extract them in some way

Thanks

Antonio

This feature is needed. Very difficult to plan without it.

Hello @Antonio Di Giacomo,

Welcome to Community!

In order to edit the filter, you need to go to the board and then on the right side click on … > Board settings > General.

On this page, you will see the Filter Query and it’s possible to edit the Saved Filter as well.

Note that, this is only for company-managed/classic projects.

Your case might be different from the original question, so it would be necessary more details about your environment.

Feel free to share screenshots of your Roadmap and share the filter with us. Just make sure to hide private information.

Kind regards,
Angélica

Hi Angelica,

unfortunately doing right click there is no Board Settings to choose

I'm sharing 2 screenshoots:

on first one you can see my Road Map with Epics and Stories

On second one you can see some story's child issues that I would like to have on my Road Map

The question is if it's possible to have these child issues on my Road map as a third level

1st Level --> Epic  (Violet colour )

2nd Level --> Stories (Green colour)

3rd level --> Child Issues or Sub Tasks (cian colour)

Thanks in advance

Antonio

Thank you for the screenshots, Antonio.

Your project is a team-managed one (former next-gen), so there are no board settings.

What you are seeing in the roadmap is correct and expected.

The Roadmap shows what is under an Epic (Issues in this Epic) only and not Child issues/Sub-tasks of Tasks.

There is a feature request suggesting the implementation of this ability:

Please, vote and also watch the feature above to receive notifications.
