I would like to set the Assignee field on issue create based on the child value of a cascading select list. I am trying to use Automation for Jira and Scriptrunner unsuccessfully so far. What would you think is the best option here?
@Dimitrios Danampasis We do this all the time with JSU. It is easy to use and allows for conditional updates. https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/5048/jsu-automation-suite-for-jira-workflows?hosting=cloud&tab=overview
If you have scriptrunner you also use it to do it. You will just need to know how to write the script.
Thanks for raising your query through the 'Community channel' and we are happy to help you!
We have created a support request on behalf of you in our portal and request you to signup to the portal and let us know so that we can make you the reporter and will be able to access the ticket.

Please let us know if you are looking for the below case where copying from a native Jira Cascading select field to the Assignee is possible, but only if the value in the select is the user id, not the display name.
So for this test user, we can only copy if the value in the select is test2. Please find the below screenshot:
Also from the description we see you are using Scriptrunner, If yes, share the complete screenshot of the cascade select configuration of the field.
