Transfer a JSD project to another existing instance Edited

Hello,

we are trying to integrate the Armstrong City Demo from "Teams in Space" into our own Jira Demo Instance.

I tried it this way:

  • bring both instances to a same version
  • make a full XML Export of TIS-jira
  • Do a "Project Import" of the ACMOON project in our Demo instance

When i was finished i saw that none of the JSD config has been transferred,

the Request types are missing.

Is this a bug or a missing feature of the project import?

Cheers

Jens

Quoting Jeffrey Thornsen from the JAC Ticket

The Project Configurator add-on for Jira has the capability to backup and restore Service Desk configuration (request types, SLAs, portal settings, etc.).

Good point, thanks for posting back with this info.  For others that might want to learn more you can find that add-on marketplace listing in Project Configurator for Jira,  additionally, you might explore a different plugin that does some very similar in the Configuration Manage for Jira.  It is also possible there are other solutions in Marketplace.

I use both of those two marketplace apps to transfer JSD project from one instance to another. It's important to have the two running versions be on the same exact release of Jira for it to work.

Hi Jens,

I see that you are trying to do a project import of a JSD project and you are not seeing much of the Service Desk specific features such as request types, customer portal customizations, SLAs, etc.

This is actually a known limitation of the project importer today.  This is noted in the existing documentation on using the project importer which you can find in Restoring a project from backup.  From that guide:

Starting from Jira 7.0, the Project Import functionality between identical instances of Jira supports some Active Objects data. For example:

  • Data that will be imported: Jira Software's sprint data and ranking data
  • Data that will not be imported: Jira Software's board configuration data and Service Desk customer portals

Unfortunately, the request types are still in the Active Objects data sets that are not possible to import via the current project importer.

That said, we do have an existing feature request open that seeks to improve the support for this Active Object data in the project importer.  You can find this in JSDSERVER-2741.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope this helps to explain the situation better.

Andy

Thanks for the pointer @Andy Heinzer , voted for that one.
