I created a new custom field named "Test Case"
I see that this new field is not searchable.
At the query: "Test Case" = '1'
I get the error message: Field 'Test Case' is not searchable, it is only sortable.
How can I make the field searchable?
Go to the field in the list of custom fields and select the "edit" option. You need to select a "searcher" in there (and re-index all the projects using the field to make it work)
I am not sure what you mean with select a "searcher". There's no such option.

In more recent versions, it's called "Search template"

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist-I don't see an option to update the search template
This is what I see in my field edit screen
Search Template There are no search templates for this custom field type.
Do I need to update any configuration pages?

That tells us the field is of a type which cannot be searched.
Look at the field in the list of custom fields and check what "type" it is. That will probably tell us why it has not available searchers.
