admin password

Petra Koutska February 23, 2014

Hello,

I created four personal Confluence logins (trial version) for me and my colleagues. The paper where I noted the passwords accidetaly vanished from my desk. Unfortunately, the only user name+password that I remember is not the admin’s one (mine). I am the admin and I cannot log in as an admin (only as one of the regular users), because I do not remember the password. It is a bit weird becuase I still CAN log in as an Atlassian user (petschwarz@seznam.cz), but my Confluence account doesn t work with those details. I find it confusing and do not get why there is no possibility to send the new password to my email (my email address is part of the profile which still exists so it wouldn t be that complicated. However, after each failed login, Confluence says that it is not possible to restore the password due to the missing email).

Please help me to restore my administrator’s access.

Best regards,

Petra Koutska

Petra,

You might want have a look in the following documentation on how to restore admin's password:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Restoring+Passwords+To+Recover+Admin+User+Rights

Make sure you have access to the database and follow the steps given.
Cheers,

Sorry, I can access confluence as a regular user, I only want to change the nature of the one accessible account (and make it admin account), or just reset the password of the admin s account. I hoped it would mean only sending the new password to my email address. For the steps given above I would need to call our IT specialist.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Restoring+Passwords+To+Recover+Admin+User+Rights- this doesnt help me either. The steps given above doesn’t even seem to apply to my situation. I have already shut it down several times, I have already opened it with appropriate tool and I normally logged in as one of the users. But this doesnt change anything, because not being an admin means that I cannot change the passwords of other three users (incl. admin) which I had lost previously.

I tried to download Confluence again, but it was only upgrading and all the accounts stayed the same -inaccessible. I think, in the end, the easiest thing will me to uninstall it completely and install anew. Than, hopefully, the database would be without account (hopefully it would not "remember" the server ID and attach the accounts again)

Thank you for yor understanding and help.

  • shut down confluence (VERY IMPORTANT)
  • Open your database with a apropriate tool
  • copy the password hash you know to your user
  • restart confluence
