Why do links break when pages are moved

April Mills September 23, 2014

I am trying to consolidate/update/clean up our wiki spaces but every time I move a page ALL of the links break.

How can we stop this?

How can we fix it?

Make sure when adding links to other Confluence content that you use either the "Search" or "Recently Viewed" functions instead of pasting a link (through "Web Link" function).  This way Confluence recognizes the actual page id, and if you rename or move the page the link will not break.

Can you clarify what version of Confluence you are using? This affects my answer... @Natalie Hobson is correct in stating that you should be using the Link Wizard to create "soft" links however.
