We are upgrading our Atlassian suite and are having problems re-starting Confluence.

We are getting a 404 error, but have run out of ideas on things to check! We have googled everything we can think of. The logs refer to a fatal socket error, but nothing specific.

Dear @Karl Samson ,

a socket error could (normally) have 2 reasons:

  • The socket is already used (zombie process)
  • You do not have the rights to use a specific socket

Confluence uses Synchrony for collaborative editing. This uses additional sockets for communication. Eventually you updated from an older version ... (more details)

Thanks Thomas, but not the answer I was looking for. However, having now done a clean re-install, and restored the pages from Backup, we are up and running again.
