We are having issues where we are seeing "Unknown Macro:rw-news" on one of the pages which uses this macro. Please let us know what can be the cause and a resolution for this. Our version of confluence is 4.2.x

The cause is either

1) someone managing to bypass the check that a macro is valid when editing a page (difficult, but possible)

2) you had a user macro or addon called re-news that a user has used on the page, and then you've removed it (deleted the user macro, disabled/removed the add-on providing it, or upgraded the add-on to a version that doesn't have it)

From memory, rw-news is a macro from the Refined Wiki add-on, so check that if you've ever used it.  If it's not that, then it will be a user macro.

To fix the problem, do one of:

  • Put the right version of Refined Wiki back on your system if it was that
  • Write a user macro called re-news to replace it
  • Remove the macro from the page
