Template Child Page

I'm wondering how I can create a fixed template for a child page? i.e. if any new page is created linked to the same parent it will automatically be created with the built in macros I desire. Especially since each child page will come with the metadata plugins and their names, so it will make it easier for creator to just add in data instead of adding in macros as well.

Howdy Nour!

Templates are an out of the box feature in Confluence! Go to your space admin context and go to Content Tools. You'll be able to configure a fixed, blank template that users can then use in your space. Note: You cannot add attachments to a template.

You can then add a Create from Template macro on the parent page and link it to your desired template. When the user clicks on that button, then it will automatically create a child page using the template you created!

Server/DC Template Documentation: https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/create-a-template-296093779.html
Cloud Template Documentation: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/create-a-template/

Bonus: You can add a Space Shortcut to your sidebar that when clicked, will create a page from the template and create it under the correct parent page!

  1. Add the basic Create From Template macro to a page pointing to the template to be used and save the page.
  2. In View Mode, right click on the Create from Template button and select Copy Link Address
  3. Paste the URL in a Note Pad or another page to view it
  4. In the URL, locate the Template ID (the series of numbers following ?templateId= in the URL)
Store this number as your Template ID Example: 941293591
  5. Navigate to the page that will be the parent page of the pages created using the link being created
  6. Edit the page
  7. The URL at the top of the page will display the editpage URL for that page
  8. Copy the Page ID (the series of numbers following ?pageID= in the URL)
Store this number as your Page ID Example: 939186366
  9. Identify your Space Key. You can find this information in the Overview section of space settings. Example: WRITERSBLOCK
  10. Using the Basic URL and the Page ID found in steps 1 & 2 build your URL based on this example, replacing each variable AND the [ ] brackets
    https://chalk.charter.com/pages/createpage-entervariables.action?templateId=[Template ID]&spaceKey=[Space Key]&fromPageId=[Page ID]
    https://chalk.charter.com/pages/createpage-entervariables.action?templateId=941293591&spaceKey=WRITERSBLOCK&fromPageId=939186366

Thank you for your help. Do I need space administrator permission to be able to create this space template?

You only need Space Admin permissions. You do not have to be a system admin.
