Is there a way to automatically populate the file format handlers for the firefox webdav launcher?

Hi,

We need to be able to make it simple for all staff to use the "edit in office" webdav functionality.

The firefox plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/webdav-launcher/ requires every user on every PC to go in and configure the application handlers for doc, docx, xls, xlsx, txt individually.

This just won't happen in our organisation and it introduces so many ways for the functionality to break (and then the clients blame confluence and start not wanting to use it).

How can we push out a set of standard configurations for the file handlers for this plugin?

All the our users are on the same version of Microsoft Office so there is no reason they should have to each set this up on their own PC.

Thanks!!

Note: I asked the developer about unpacking the XPI file and modifying the urlLoadPref.js file to automatically populate the file handlers definitions and have been directed back to Atlassian as they own the IP. Still waiting on an answer.

Warm regards,

Anthony

Hello Anthony,

In this case this is a configuration of the Add-on from the Firefox Browser, so it is a little 'outside' from the Confluence itself, even the Confluence's application uses this resource to make the 'edit in office' option available and functional. Based on this from the Confluence side is not possible to configure a set of standard configurations for the file handlers, but maybe by some customization you can elaborate something from the Browser's side, but this would require some development (as you're already trying something related with development, this would the right way).

Based on your actual scenario I would suggest you to try to make a contact with an Atlassian Expert, that is a kind of certified partner and able to work/develop customizations, and that will be able to provide you a better assistance with this kind of request.

You can find an Atlassian Expert in the following link:

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

LJ.

Found out it stores the addon config in the prefs.js file in the users firefox profile. Pretty sure we can deploy that to our users.

Thanks for the reply :-)
