How to update Figure or Diagram numbers across multiple Confluence pages

Hi team,

Running Confluence 5.9.6.

Scenario:

I have multiple pages in my Confluence space all relating to a particular topic.

  • Each page has figures/diagrams; these may be added/removed/changed.
  • Each figure/diagram has an associated piece of text, eg "Figure 1 business flow".
  • The figure/diagram number is referred to in the text of the Confluence pages.

Is there a way to automatically update the figure/diagram number as figures/diagrams are added/removed from each page?

I thought of running some type of script to do the updates?

Couldn't see how this is done in Confluence.

I guess I would also need some tip of label/anchor/tag associated with each figure/diagram for any script to reference and update.

Any suggestions/direction would be appreciated.

cheers,

dg
