How do you get a clickable Windows UNC link in Confluence 4.x?

Question

What is the correct syntax to create a clickable UNC link in Confluence 4.x?  If I use the same [\server\path] syntax as in Confluence 3.5, I only get the text and no clickable link.  This is true regardless of browser.  Identical syntax on 3.5 provides a clickable link on 3.5 and not on 4.0.4.

Using the "Link" wizard and playing around with various options hasn't helped either.

Any suggestions?

This appears to be a bug in Confluence 4.x.  I have opened https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-24034 in hopes of getting this resolved.
