How can I find a relevant confluence group for setting page restrictions?

Patrick Schindler February 18, 2016

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Page Restrictions

Hi,

In a previous version of confluence I could work like this:

  1. use a wildcard to search for relevant confluence groups
  2. list the members of a candidate group (one group at a time)
  3. decide which group to use
  4. set the restrictions using this group.

With version 5.9.4 this is no longer possible:

  1. no wildcards are allowed any more
  2. There is auto-completion, but completion works only at the end of words, not at the beginning
  3. I should know the names of possibly relevant groups. But I simply don't.
  4. Example: I somehow know that there is a group with a company name in the middle.
Using wildcard I could do this:
    *COMPANY
    and get some useful results.
Now this is no longer possible.
  5. => No possibility to set restrictions using groups any more

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Patrick

Thanks for your reply.

But this does not answer my question.

My question is: How do I find out which relevant user groups exist?

In the meantime I have been told, that this is no longer possible anymore for users which are not admin user!

So you should do the following when setting up a space:

  1. Ask your admin to give you a list of the possibly relevant groups for your space
  2. Make sure with your admin that you will be informed about additional relevant groups for this space which may be created later.
  3. Create a page in your space with a list of these relevant groups
  4. On this page use the "usergroup" macro to create a list of all users for a specific group
  5. It is a good idea to wrap each macro in an expand-collapse macro.
  6. Make this page visible to all people in the space which may want to restrict pages to a specific group.
