Export an image to Word does not show images after inserting the file. What am I doing wrong?

This is what it shows when exporting from Confluence 6

Hi Debbi,

It looks like the image in Confluence is actually stored somewhere else, and not in Confluence.  Word is pulling the link through but can't access the image because it's not stored on Confluence.

It was NOT in a different place.  That is why I am confused.  What is the PROPER way to put files in Confluence for a successful Word export?

Hi Debbi,

Based on the error message - "The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed or deleted.  Verify that the link points to the correct file and location" - Word is telling you that the image is missing (i.e. there's no image file at the link Confluence is providing).

There are 2 realistic options here:

  1. The file is held in a different place, or;
  2. There is a security issue which is stopping Word exporting the file.

(There's also the 3rd option that this is a bug, but it's more likely to be options 1 or 2 above).

There are 2 simple tests you can do to trouble shoot this problem:

  1. In View mode (i.e. when the page isn't being edited) click the paperclip icon at the top of the page next to the title.  This will take you to the Attachments for the page.  Verify that the image on the page is in the list of Attachments.  If it is, then the Word export should pick it up and display it. If it isn't, then you need to look at the link in the image, find the original image file and attach it to the page.
  2. Allow anonymous access to the page and export again.  if the problem is a security issue then (assuming that the image is in the list of attachments, as per #1 above) allowing anonymous access will allow Word to export the image correctly.  (CAVEAT: allowing anonymous access comes with risks and you'll need to ask your Confluence administrator to allow it.)  If this turns out to be the problem then you might want to vote for and watch this issue: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-34211

This is a BUG in the software.  I do not know of any use case where you would open anonymous access.  I have tested and checked and the linked files are in Confluence on that page - I used insert file to the page and directly cut and pasted to the page.  The figures do not export to Word.  They do to PDF.

Hi Debbi,

You can log a support request with Atlassian here.  They'll investigate it for you.

Hi Debbi,

Did you copy-paste the image from the browser with "copy image"?

Try Content Exporter. For me it did the job well.

Cheers,

Laci

Confluence is supposed to be able to export word files.  I want to know how to do it properly, not buy another product.
