I try to create a space and  I  get a  dialog with only "An unknown server error has occurred."  in it.

doing  tail  -f atlassian-confluence.log shows me this

2020-02-03 09:49:57,034 WARN [http-nio-8090-exec-9] [confluence.impl.hibernate.ConfluenceHibernateTransactionManager] doRollback Performing rollback. Transactions:
->[PluginReadWriteTx]: PROPAGATION_REQUIRED,ISOLATION_DEFAULT (Session #1017308383)
-- referer: http://confluence.xxxx.com/ | url: /rest/create-dialog/1.0/space-blueprint/dialog/web-items | traceId: 5da32d3665abec3c | userName:  xxxxxx

This is a fresh install of confluence on a  freshly installed ubuntu 18.04. The only other thing on the server  (and working what  I  can tell so far is JIRA).

I'm not sure how to check the version of confluence and Jira, but they were both freshly downloaded within the past week (today is 2020-02-03).

I came across a post elsewhere on confluence, that suggested dropping  3 tables in the  DB, and deleting a handful of plugin folders, would solve the issue. But for me it did not.

One other thing  I notice is, I  have a couple of plugins that say they can update but they also get a similar error when attempting to update. Not sure if it is related.

@chrishacia

Your problem sounds like an SSL issue.
