Copy and Paste HTML into Confluence?

I'm currently putting a large amount of code into the HTML macro in Confluence. When I paste the code from my source into the macro box, the code seems to not contain the formatting that it once had (lines). If I paste that same code anywhere else, it will keep the formatting. Is there something I'm doing wrong? What can I do to prevent manually reformatting the code?

Hi Emily,

A couple of questions:

  1. Where are you copying the HTML from?
  2. If you paste into a program like Sublime Text, does it retain the formatting?
  3. Does it lose the formatting on paste or after you publish and then open again to edit?
