Confluence custom editor tag like <time datetime="..."/>

Entering "//" in the Editor opens a datepicker, the result is rendered as a "<time datetime="..."/>" tag. Question: How can I write such a editor extension on my own?

Is it some kind of TinyMCE plugin?
