Confluence Decision table displays code, not an icon - why?

I made a Decision table in Confluence. When it's viewed, code displays in the second pane of the Status row insead of an icon that displays the status. I get this results in IE 8 and Chrome, but haven't tried yet in Firefox. Is this a JavaScript browser setting? We are not able to upgrade to IE 10 at this time.

This is what displays on the Status row: <ac:macro ac:name="status"><ac:parameter ac:name="title">Not Started</ac:parameter><ac:parameter ac:name="colour">Grey</ac:parameter></ac:macro>
