Hey there..
my newly installed Confluence Datacenter is not writing pid file at system boot. It seems to start but does not store the pid.
However, if I add the pid to /opt/atlassian/confluence/current/work/catalina.pid. I can then stop confluence and restart it just fine -t even edits the pid file.
this just happens at reboot of the system
