Confluence Backup Speed

Pangianto Pang August 21, 2012

Hi All,

I have this Confluence which does backup very very slowly. This can be seen at the speed of increment of the 'entity.xml' in the Confluence_HOME/temp folder when i do a manual back up.

Is there anyway to speed up the back up process?

I read this but i dont noe how to do it, can anybody tell me how to do the below?

- If you are running Confluence behind Apache HTTP Server and are facing timeout errors, please consider creating the export directly from Tomcat, instead of going through Apache. This will speed up the process and prevent timeouts.

Thanks in advanced

Hi Panquin,

And just to confirm with you, did you notice some specific error regarding Out of Memory or something like this? The memory can be an important point here, and if some error regarding memory is appearing this can be the cause of the problem. Could you please take a look and let us know your findings regarding this topic?

Cheers,

Luiz.

Hi all,

I suspected the java heap space was out of memory too at first, but it was not.

Anyway, i did tried to give more memory to the java heap, but the back up was still slow.

The strangest thing is after i did a restore back to an earlier version, the back up is fast now.

Thanks all for the responses and helps.

I believe that comment refers to not going through an Apache redirect or reverse proxy, e.g., http://mycompanywiki

Instead, access your installation from its Tomcat URL directly, e.g., http://mywikiserver:9090

I believe the theory is that the Apache URL redirecting may be introducing some delay in the backup process.

Hi Chad,

Thanks for your quick reply, but i cannot access my Tomcat URL because i dont know the address of the tomcat server.

Can tell me where to get my Tomcat server URL? i type http://myconfluenceserver:8090, it brings me to the confluence directly.

Thanks.

That is the Tomcat URL... I mean to say the URL provided by your Tomcat application (in this case Confluence is the Tomcat application). If you have not yet tried running a backup from Confluence using that URL then give it a try. Maybe it will be faster.
