Cleanup the application-data

Dear All,

I ran a Confluence server for a while wilth some uploaded videos. Just for 3 week, the server consumed almost 1TB on my server. I used Advanced space plugin to check, the result is acceptable as in the snapshot:

Space.JPGHowever when I check the directory application-data of confluence with the command du, it becomes really heavy:

Would you please tell me how to claim back / clean up these space?

Many thanks

I would look at the size of the directories within there.  Some are temporary and can be cleared out if you want (confluence will recreate any files it needs) but most are needed for it to work.

Stop confluence, and clear out (I would move them first, only deleting after I've restarted confluence and confirmed nothing has gone wrong) all the files in the following sub-directories:

  • log
  • viewfile
  • temp
  • thumbnail

Also look into these directories - you might not want to kill all the files in them, but it's likely that there are a load you probably don't need any more

  • backups
  • restore
  • recovery
  • analytics-logs

Most important is the "attachments" directory - if you delete anything from there, you are deleting your actual data.  Do NOT delete anything from here.  If you think there are files in there that are too large, go into confluence and delete them from the pages they are attached to.

Oh, and consider looking at a logrotate type function for staying on top of the files that accumulate in all of those directories.

@Son wow, 1TB in 3 weeks? I agree with Nic on the steps to check what is happening.

But please let us know what you find. I'm curious to understand what exactly is taking all the space.
