Feature Request - Automation - Database Actions

Dave February 25, 2024

The creation of Database-specific actions would greatly improve my chances of convincing the client to move from SPO lists to Jira Databases :)

One Jira Automation action I can think of with a wide range of uses would be 'Create entry in Database' or 'Update Database Entry' - we already have the action to create a Page in confluence in an automation chain, but being able to streamline the creation of a row in Databases would have a dramatic effect on the products overall adoption potential.

Does anyone else have any automation integrations they've thought of, or any workarounds they're currently using with Database to streamline the data entry?

Of course you will mean Confluence Databases - yes I do see interesting possibilities if Automation and Databases could interact. Certain metadata values in databases could trigger automations, or could be the result of automations.

If new database entries could be created through Automations, then you could create pages with a whole set of predefined metadata (permissions, owner, status, labels, ....).

I think that the syntax in Automations to inject or change an entry in a Database could be very straightforward, using (newly to be defined) smart values. And we should agree: in a short while AI will translate our human language orders into the machine syntax...

It was mentioned a bit earlier this week, but indeed an audit log then in Databases is a necessity in this context.

Thanks for the feedback Dave, we will be enabling automation for Confluence databases in the future. I will share this example and feedback with the team!
