How do you exit maintenance mode in Bitbucket or manually unlock?

David January 31, 2023

I am using VMWare on ESXi.  I am new to VMWare and the Atlassian suite (Jira, Conf and Bitbucket) so it may be due to lack of experience but I have spent hours looking and reading to no prevail thus far.  When using Bitbucket (BB) Server Client for my backups, I recently encountered an error that I have not yet found an answer to resolve the following:  "Bitbucket has already been locked for maintenance by another process.  If a previous backup attempt failed, BB must be manually unlocked via its UI before another b/u can be started.  The token necessary to unlock the system is available in BB's logs."  I found this in the logs folder and see in previous days where it was successful and said it was locked and unlocked for maintenance.  Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi @David ,

Please, refer the below document which will provide you the steps for cancelling the backup from UI.

Thanks @Mahesh Shinde for the reply and appreciate you sending the doc info.  However, I should have mentioned earlier following my last sentence that I have this same doc. Also, that I feel this doesnt apply since I  dont get step 2 - there appears to be no b/u occurring and the last one that completed(and has in the log b/u completed, unlocking BB using token ....) was from a week prior.  I am getting the error when I try to run the b/u and this is what I am seeing when checking the log. Therefore, nowhere to cancel the backup because one never started.  I've tried turning VM off and back on with the same results.

Hi @David ,

Have you checked on the VM if there is backup script configured for daily basis in cronjob?

Please, check any process is running on Bitbucket VM and also check there are newly created files in "Backup" folder.

Also, check if you can see maintenance page: https://<URL>/bitbucket/unavailable or https://<URL>/stash/unavailable.
