Does Bitbucket follow the model of releasing new functionality to Cloud then eventually to Server?

Libby Sparks July 27, 2016

One of our development teams is looking to watch a repository and get notifications for commits, etc. We noticed that this is available in Bitbucket Cloud but not yet in Server.

Other Atlassian products tend to roll-out functionality to their cloud instances and then later wrap them up into server releases. Is this how Bitbucket works also? Can we expect (eventually) to be able to watch repos and get more intelligent/custom notifications?

Hi Libby,

This FAQ helps answer your question in part: https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver/bitbucket-rebrand-faq-779298912.html#BitbucketrebrandFAQ-Whyaren'ttheServerandCloudfeaturesthesame?

In short, the model is not to release to Cloud and then Server, though that may happen. Our aim is to ensure the products offer the same core code collaboration capabilities around branches and pull requests, and we're working on closing gaps over time. That said, there isn't a guarantee that we'll reach full parity.

As for watching repos, this is something we'd like to add, but it's not on our roadmap at this time due to other priorities. You can watch for updates on that front here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-2556

Hope that helps!
