By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to:

  • Define the role of Atlassian teams
  • Describe how teams created in Jira are reflected in Compass and the benefits of this integration.

What are Atlassian teams?

Your physical team consists of the individuals you engage with daily to fulfill your project objectives. An Atlassian team represents your team within Atlassian apps. Atlassian apps are specifically designed to empower teams to work and collaborate to their fullest potential. These apps simplify team communication and collaboration across various projects and platforms, and Compass is one example.
Do you manage a team of developers? Is your team encountering issues with certain components they manage? How can you identify these issues? By gaining valuable insights into your team's cycle time, you can quickly pinpoint bottlenecks and blockers. This proactive approach will not only accelerate software delivery but also significantly enhance the developer experience.
You can explore your team’s performance through Compass's team view. This feature enables you to examine your team's components and the events associated with them, such as deployments. Additionally, you can monitor the status of your team's prioritized work and review the scorecards of your components to identify any potential problems. An overview of all your team’s components is also readily accessible for a comprehensive understanding.
With this information available to you at a glance, you can dive deeper to discover problems before they become serious.
👉 For example: When you encounter a failing scorecard, you can investigate to identify the component is experiencing deployment issues. This insight enables you to understand the necessary steps to effectively address and resolve the problem.
Atlassian teams can be managed through the Atlassian Teams app. In this app, you can create teams, add and remove members, establish links to the apps the teams use, monitor the Compass components the teams are responsible for, and even give team members kudos. You can also access Atlassian teams through the Teams menu in many of Atlassian's apps.

Use Atlassian teams in Compass

Compass uses Atlassian teams to designate accountability for developing, maintaining, and operating components, thereby promoting best practices. If you have an established team you use in Jira, you will find that the same team is reflected in Compass, provided both Compass and Jira are part of the same site.

There is no need to recreate your team in Compass; your existing team you use in Jira will automatically appear in Compass.

In the screenshots below, you can view the same teams listed in both Jira and Compass. These product instances belong to the same site.
