How to summarize content quickly with Rovo
Rovo efficiently condenses information from pages, summaries, descriptions, and comments and identifies action items in cloud apps. These summaries ensure that all relevant information is readily accessible and easy to grasp, empowering teams to make quicker decisions and enhance collaboration.
Rovo's summarization features
To access Rovo's AI-powered summarization features:
- While viewing a page, highlight text.
- In the floating toolbar, click Ask Rovo.
- In the Rovo Chat window that opens with the highlighted text entered in a prompt, write "summarize".

Summarize a page or blog in Confluence
Rovo summarizes information on any page or blog in Confluence, saving you time reading long pages.
👉 For example: Rohan isn’t sure if a page has the information he needs, but he doesn’t want to read the entire page to find out as it is too long. He asks Rovo to summarize the page does answer his question! Rohan can read the full page if he needs more detail.
To summarize a page, select the Rovo icon at the bottom of the screen then select Summarize page. You will get an AI-generated summary of the page or blog.

Audio briefing a page or blog in Confluence
Rovo creates an audio briefing for any page or blog in Confluence, so you can listen instead of reading, and quickly decide if the content is relevant. It acts like your own personal work podcast, you just need to press play.
To listen to a briefing, select the headphone icon at the bottom of a Confluence page. You can customize your experience by selecting the More actions menu (represented by ***) in the audio briefing pop-up to make your overview short or long, and change the tone to professional, conversational, or playful.
👉 For example: Kasim isn’t sure if a page has the information he needs, and he doesn’t have time to read it all. He clicks the audio briefing icon and listens to a short spoken overview of the page while he’s on the move. The briefing confirms the page is useful, and Kasim can open and read the full content in Confluence if he needs more detail.

When you select Switch to Narration, it lets you listen to the full page, word-for-word, instead of just a summary.
Summarize changes on a page using Rovo
Rovo's Summarize changes feature provides a summary of updates made to a Confluence page since your last visit. This helps you stay informed about recent changes and quickly catch up on what’s new.
With Summarize changes, you can:
- Summarize edits: Review a summary of the major edits made to the page since your last visit to ensure you don’t miss any important updates.
- Track changes: Understand when the edits occurred and who made them, providing a clear timeline of the workstream.
- Save time and effort: Provides a quick way to stay up-to-date on all the pages you care about and collaborate daily.
This helps you:
✔ Spend more time working with new changes.
✔ Stay aware of important updates from your team.
👉 For example: Megha was away from work for a week. Her team had a team-building session and made updates to the Confluence page. When she returned, Megha wanted to see all the changes quickly. The Summarize changes button on the page allows her to click and view major edits and the version history link.

The Summarize changes will only be available to select when the page has changed since you last visited. It might be grayed when there are no changes on a page.
Summarize comments in Confluence
Sometimes, a page is shared with a large group in your organization—for example, to introduce yourself, announce an app release, or communicate policy changes. Viewers may react with emojis or leave comments. When there are many comments, it can be challenging to keep up with all the feedback. The Summarize comments feature provides a summary of the comments, analyzes their sentiment, and highlights whether comments are informative or actionable.
Using the Summarize comments feature, users can:
✔ Review page comments and inline comments: Gain valuable insights into the team's review process by summarizing the main themes and sentiments conveyed in the page comments or inline comments.
✔ Identify action items: Speed up your and your team’s to-do list by extracting suggested action items from comments left on the page since you’ve last visited.
👉 For example: When Shikha, a project manager, returned to her document after several meetings, she noticed multiple comments from team members with suggestions and feedback. Instead of reviewing each comment individually, she used the Summarize comments feature to quickly identify actionable items mentioned in the comments. This provided an overview of the discussions and tasks related to the document, helping her stay informed and prioritize next steps.

The Summarize comments button cannot generate a summary when there are insufficient comments available. If no comments are present, the button will be greyed out.
Summarize comments in Jira apps
AI-powered summaries in Jira apps offer concise overviews of lengthy comment threads within a Jira ticket. Instead of reading through long descriptions and multiple comments, you can use Rovo to generate a summary of the information. This makes it easier to identify which comments or details may require a response.
Summarize comments in Jira apps provides an overview of a work item’s comment history and description. The feature highlights main context points, notes decisions made and any pending action items, and condenses longer discussions into a brief summary.
Summarize comments:
✔ Help decrease the mental load on users or agents.
✔ Improve work item resolution efficiency to increase customer satisfaction.
👉 For example: In Jira Service Management, Agent Ishan, upon being assigned to an onboarding ticket for a new employee, can generate a quick AI summary. This summary enables him to familiarize himself with the ticket, review previous customer interactions, track progress, and identify key outcomes.
👉 Another example: Ashwini, a software developer on a Jira space, uses Rovo to summarize comments on the Jira ticket for the login feature. This helps her review discussions efficiently, identify action items, and stay updated on the feature's progress. Leveraging AI-powered summaries in Jira, Ashwini streamlines her workflow, focuses on key updates, and stays informed.

To get an AI-generated summary of all comments on a work item:
- In the Activity section of the work item, select Comments.
- Select Summarize comments.
The AI-generated summary is visible only to you and disappears when you navigate away from the work item. You can summarize a work item’s comments as many times as you like.
Summarize Smart Links on a Confluence page
The Summarize with AI feature saves you time by summarizing the content of a Smart Link on your page. Hover over inline Smart Links to summarize the content with AI, saving time without leaving the current page or navigating away from it.
To summarize a Smart Link with AI:
- Navigate to the Confluence page or blog post containing a Smart Link.
- Hover over a Smart Link for:
- Confluence page
- Jira ticket
- Google doc
- Select Summarize with AI.
- Rovo will generate a summary.
A summary will not be generated in cases where there is insufficient content for summarization or when summarizing the content could potentially violate Atlassian’s Acceptable Use Policy.
