What is Rovo Chat?
Rovo Chat app is a conversational AI-powered assistant that helps you find information and generate content, without disrupting your workflow. What makes Rovo Chat unique is that it is deeply embedded within the Atlassian ecosystem, leveraging the Teamwork Graph to provide contextually relevant insights, ideas, and actions. Rovo Chat app understands the context of your work (both within your Atlassian apps and connected third-party apps) to deliver personalized assistance.
Rovo Chat app can significantly enhance your productivity by answering complex questions, taking action and simplifying learning by providing insightful information. Whether you're summarizing a lengthy page, drafting a document, or searching for specific information, Rovo Chat can help. Rovo Chat respects all user permissions, only searching pages and work items that you have permission to view to provide its responses. Your chats are private and only visible to you.
👉 For example: Shruti, a project manager, uses Rovo Chat to quickly summarize the latest updates on her team's Confluence pages. This allows her to stay informed without spending hours reading through each page.
👇 Rovo Chat provides contextually relevant information and insights.

Extend Rovo Chat capabilities to your Chrome browser
The Rovo Chrome extension gives you access to your organization’s knowledge from your Google Chrome browser. Use Rovo Chat to gain knowledge or ask questions about information on publicly available web pages, such as asking Chat to summarize the information, or cross reference it with knowledge from your organization.
👇 Open Rovo Chat from a Chrome browser.

Rovo does not use information on private web pages, such as medical sites or bank account information, to infer answers to user prompts.
Get the most out of Rovo Chat
When you work with Rovo Chat or Rovo Agents app, you will use prompts written using natural language. They can range from simple questions to highly detailed instructions.
To enhance your Rovo Chat prompt, you can also:
- @mention a person or a team
- Paste a Smart Link to any Atlassian or any supported third-party content to which you have access
- Specify a time period, such as “last week” or “today”
- Reference a Confluence space or Jira project by name
Rovo Chat app can help you with a variety of tasks, including finding, summarizing, and reviewing existing content, as well as generating new content based on your inputs.
👇 Click the boxes below to explore examples of how you can use Rovo Chat.
Optimize your Rovo Chat experience
While simple questions can meet many of your needs, a more detailed prompt can unlock the power of Rovo Chat app, particularly when generating new content. A well-crafted generative AI prompt might:
- Clearly state the task you want the AI to perform
- Specify a context or persona, and any helpful background information, or guidelines to follow.
- Mention references such as links.
- Provide additional details like the format or tone.
You don't always get amazing results with just one prompt, so keep iterating and use follow-up prompts until you get the result you’re looking for. Because Chat is conversational, you can always follow up by asking for an answer:
- In a different format, such as bullet points, a table, an email, or HTML
- Shorter or longer, such as within a specific word count or a top three list
- In a different tone, such as formal, instructional, or at a particular reading level
- With more context or detail, such as writing as a specific persona, or following a more specific set of instructions or parameters
👇 Use follow-up prompts to refine your results.

Search your chat history
Rovo Chat app keeps a history of your interactions, allowing you to revisit previous conversations. Chat stores your messages and the answers you receive for 30 days so that you can retrieve and display your conversation history. This is particularly useful for tracking down past information or instructions. You can search your chat history by keywords or phrases to quickly find the information you need.
Selecting a prior chat also allows you to switch the current Chat back to that conversation, continuing from where you left off. From the More actions menu (represented by ···) on each of your chats, you can:
- Rename your chat for easier reference
- Delete a chat you no longer need
👉 For example: Esperanza, an HR manager, needs to find the steps for setting up a new employee’s onboarding plan. She quickly searches her chat history with Rovo Chat from two weeks ago to retrieve the information without needing to ask the same question again.
👇 Search by keyword to locate previous Rovo Chat conversations.

Provide feedback to improve Rovo Chat
After receiving a response, you can rate the accuracy and usefulness of the answer. You can also provide specific comments on what was helpful or what needs improvement. This feedback helps Atlassian continually improve the Chat functionality.
To provide feedback on a response:
- Click the thumbs up or thumbs down icon at the bottom-left of a Rovo Chat response to express your satisfaction level.
- In the pop-up window, share a summary to give context for your feedback.
- Click Send feedback.
