Configure app requests for an organization

5 min

By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to:

  • Update app requests settings

What are app requests?

App requests settings allow you to control whether your managed accounts can sign up for new Atlassian apps. In its default setting, managed accounts can sign up for any app.
You can customize app requests to suit various scenarios.
πŸ‘‰ For example: Organizations that aim for growth require a system where teams can easily sign up for new apps. In such scenarios, enabling users to sign up for new apps is essential.
πŸ‘‰ Another example: Organizations that prioritize confidentiality and restrict work from being carried outside designated apps must ensure that app requests are authorized.

App requests are available for Jira, Jira Service Management and Confluence with an Enterprise plan.

Set up app requests in your organization

Org and site admins can manage app requests from the Shadow IT Controls page. App request settings are configured individually for each app.
πŸ‘‡ Click the boxes below to explore two ways to configure app requests.

Even when the app request settings are enabled, there are certain areas within your Atlassian apps where users might still have the ability to sign up for apps. Monitoring your organization's Shadow IT apps is one way to stay on top of new apps users signed up for.

Reviewing app requests

When an app request first appears in the Shadow IT controls page, it has the Needs review status. When an org admin starts reviewing the requests, they can set it to Under review so the user knows someone is looking at their requests.
Once reviewed, the org admin changes the request status to either Approved, Resolved or Denied.

An org admin can contact the user who raised the app request to find out more about the reason why they need the app.
