Trimming and stitching videos in Loom

Trimming refers to cutting out specific sections of your video to remove unwanted content such as mistakes, long pauses, or off-topic tangents. Stitching involves combining multiple clips or loom videos together to create a seamless final product. Editing your Loom videos helps you present a more polished final product, keep your audience's attention, and convey your message more effectively. You can trim and stitch your Loom videos by waveform or by transcript.

Trim by waveform

Trimming by waveform allows you to make precise edits based on the visual representation of your audio, called the waveform. This method is perfect for cutting out unwanted sections and seamlessly joining clips. By using the audio waveform, you can identify and remove any pauses, mistakes, or irrelevant parts, remove them, and drag and drop the remaining clips to rearrange or combine them into a single video.
👇Click the boxes below to learn how to use this method in different editing situations.

Edit by transcript

Editing by transcript is a powerful feature that allows you to make fast video edits as easily as editing a document, removing unwanted parts of your video by deleting them from your transcript. This method is ideal for removing specific words or phrases from your video. By editing from the transcript, you can quickly ensure that your message is clear and free of any unnecessary content, making your video more professional and polished.
To edit your video using the transcript editor:
  1. After recording, click Edit from the video side panel, then Edit by transcript.
  2. Highlight the words or sentence you want to remove from your video and click Trim, using the search bar if needed.

Stitch multiple video clips together

The stitch feature in Loom allows you to combine multiple video clips (made by you or others) into one video. This enables you to collaboratively create content, reuse video clips in different ways and in various combinations, and add more content to your existing videos.
To stitch multiple clips together:
  1. With the video open that you wish to add clips to, click Edit from the video side panel, then Trim and stitch.
  2. Click the Add clip button below your video and select the video you want to stitch, either by selecting from a list of recently created Looms, searching by keyword, or adding the Loom’s URL.
  3. To reorder clips, click the arrows below each clip.

Use the Live Rewind feature in the Chrome extension

If you make a mistake while recording using the Loom Chrome extension, you can take advantage of the Live Rewind feature to edit in real-time, correcting errors while you record. Live Rewind allows you to pause, rewind, and re-record sections of your video as you go without needing to start over or use the Loom editor tools. This feature allows you to trim an error you just made from the end of your recording only. If you need to trim content from the beginning or middle of your video, you can do that using the waveform or transcript editor tools.

Achieve your video’s goals with call-to-action (CTA) buttons

A call-to-action (or CTA) button is an interactive element in your video in the form of a URL linked button that prompts viewers to take a specific action, such as visiting a website, signing up for a newsletter, or filling out a form. By strategically placing a CTA, you can increase viewer interaction and achieve your video’s goals more effectively.
You can edit the color, text, shape, and placement of your button to either display throughout your video, or only display at the end.
👇Click the boxes to explore examples of how CTA buttons can be used.

Fix your video transcript

Correct and remove words to clarify content and captions.
A video transcript is a written version of the spoken content in your video. Transcripts are incredibly useful for a variety of purposes, including generating closed captions and helping viewers easily find specific information from the video. Loom can automatically generate transcripts in over 50 spoken languages! In Loom, transcripts are auto-generated, making creating a transcript easy, but there can be errors.
Whether due to disability or an environmental need to watch videos at low or no volume, many people rely on closed captions to appreciate and understand video content. By editing and correcting errors in your video transcript, you can ensure that the text accurately reflects the spoken content, enhancing the overall quality and accessibility of your video for those who turn on closed captions.
By going into edit mode in the video transcript, you can delete words or correct one or all instances of a word that was transcribed incorrectly.
