Explore organizations, sites, and apps
An Atlassian Cloud organization is a structural entity for managing:
- One or more Atlassian Cloud apps
- One or more sites
- The users and groups that access apps and sites
A site contains one or more instances of Atlassian apps under the organization. Each site can only have one instance of each app. An Atlassian Cloud organization may have one site or multiple sites underneath it.
👉 For example: Hal is the org admin for the Woozlemania organization. Woozlemania is an organization that has three different sites. One site for each branch.
Woozlemania organization breaks down like this:
- Woozle-india site has an instance of Confluence
- Woozle-france site has Jira and Jira Administration
- Woozle-spain site has Confluence, Jira, and Jira Administration
👇 This is the structure of the Woozlemania organization.

Jira Administration is a special app automatically added in the background to any site with one or more Jira apps. What’s unique about this is that regular end users do not see or know that the app is there. Jira admins are the only users that can use the Jira Administration app, granting them access to the System menu and other administrative features in Jira.
What is Atlassian Administration?
Atlassian Administration is a place for org admins to manage the Atlassian organizations they have access to. Users can potentially serve as org admins for multiple Atlassian Cloud organizations. In that case, they will see those organizations listed on Atlassian Administration and can select one of them to manage.
Once within an organization, you can access all important configurations from the sidebar such as app, security, and billing settings.
👇 Here's a preview of Atlassian Administration.

Org admins can delegate some of the administrative tasks of an organization to users with permissions limited to those tasks (for example, managing users).
You can access Atlassian Administration at admin.atlassian.com.
Administer an organization
Atlassian Administration has several tabs that allow org admins to manage different areas of their organization.
👇 Click the icons below to explore the different tabs available to the org admin in Atlassian Administration.

Switch between organizations
You can be org admin in multiple organizations.
👉 For example: A company might have an organization for their branches in Europe and another organization for their branches in the United States since they work as separate entities. However, the org admin might need to be the same across the different branches.
You can use the organization drop-down menu to switch from one organization to another.
The drop-down menu will only show the organization you have access to as an admin, whether that is org admin, site admin, or user access admin.
Admin roles in organizations
Depending on your role, you can access an organization in different ways.
Admin roles: Roles such as org admin and site admin provide the ability to administer the organization.
App roles: User and app admin roles are examples of roles that grant access to Atlassian apps within the organization.
The roles available to assign in your organization partly depend on the apps you have. It is not possible to create app roles or remove existing ones.
