Hi Gabriel, I haven't heard of this use case before. What if you just created a workflow that only contains the "Closed" status? When you create a new workflow, it automatically adds one status for you, usually the "Open" status (unless you've changed its name.) You can change the step name and the linked status in text…

Orawan's answer is the best, but if it's not a shared filter issue, also check that your viewer is logged in to the application. You'd be surprised how many times a week a user tells me something in JIRA is broken and I discover the problem is instead, the user has neglected to authenticate.

Hi Kathy, Congrats on finally convincing your boss! Summit is a must do for the networking and ideas you'll get! I've posted some justification information you might be able to leverage here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-get-your-boss-send-you-atlassian-summit-2016-user-rachel-wright After 10 years of admin…

Hi Matthew, I don't know of a good way to do what you're asking for multiple issues, but for a single issue, JIRA shows the change history in the "Activity" area at the bottom of the issue's "View" screen. Further, there are some JQL operators that might be useful for decting change. For example: WAS, CHANGED, etc. Read…

Hey Aileen, I'm with Nic on this - a note in the announcement banner with a link to more info on the change in Confluence. Additionally, you could use JIRA's "Send E-mail" feature to notify all users or all users in a role or group. (But what's the fun in storing change history in email?) ;) Finally, if you have the Server…

Hi Barrett, I don't think you can do it with JQL. The closest I've been able to get is using a WAS search to detect transitions during a certain time frame. Ex: status was statusname DURING ("2017-01-01","2017-06-01") Not quite what you want, I know. But, if you have JIRA Server, you can get the transition info out of the…

Hi Sandor, You can use the syntax "@username" or "@display name" (without the quotes) which will automatically translate to "[~username]" (without the quotes.) This works for any active user. I have version 7.1.1 and I notice JIRA sometimes has trouble finding a user. I find that hitting the "tab" key sometimes helps…

Hi Tiffany, Sorry, I don't have a real answser here for you, but I'm curious: Why are your users typing passwords into JIRA? This seems like a huge security issue, but maybe you have a great use case I haven't considered? :) This data would be open to anyone who can see the issue, see the issue's history, view issues in…

Hi Fred, no need to worry about new admin questions. We were all new once and we all had this same question, believe me! You can do this with a workflow validator. I believe these days this function comes with JIRA and doesn't require installing a specific plugin. (I just checked a Cloud instance with no plugins and it's…

Hi Erica, I can reproduce your issue. But unfortunately, that's the only helpful info I can provide. I don't know why it works that way nor if there's anything you can do about it. I've written up a help article, for my users, to show them how to "restore" their view to "normal" for their user profile. (i.e. Show all…

Hi Eldon, I tried out your scenario, following your steps. If I still have an open browser session in the JIRA application, I'm able to launch a wallboard from a Windows desktop shortcut. If I log out of JIRA and then try it however, I get the blank, black screen you mention. I'd submit an feature request to put some kind…

Marta, what a lovely thing to post! I love this community! Hope to see you at Summit.

Hi Tomek, You're talking about the "Dashboards" drop down menu, in the main navigation bar, at the top of any JIRA page, right? If so, the links in that menu are specific to each user's preferences. The links consist of dashboards they've marked as a "favorite". For users who login, send them the URL, with the unique…

Hi Kalpana, I think you're inadvertantly filtering out issues with no label! Try adding "or labels = empty" to your query. Hope this solves it, Rachel Wright

Hi Guillermo, Have you checked the settings for your Incoming Mail Handler? There are a number of options like: "Create a new issue or add a comment to an existing issue" vs. "Create a new issue from each email message." It might be as simple as chosing the former option over the latter. You can get to your settings page…

Hi Ramon, Sorry, I don't know of a plugin to help you categorize filters. But I did want to ask you about your "resolution = unresolved" comment. Do you actually have a selection value called "unresolved"? If you do I'd remove that. JIRA treats any value in the Resolution field as "resolved." That may be why your filters…

Hi Randy, Yes, you can certainly do this; no Issue Security Scheme required! The key is to create a Permission Scheme just for this purpose. Set the "Browse Projects" line item to "Current assignee" and/or "Reporter" depending on your needs. Next, for your board, create a dynamic query, like "project = x and assignee =…

Hi Mark, I only know the answer to part of your question. You're able to turn mail on or off from the JIRA Admin Console on the following page: Admin > System > Outgoing Mail. Additionally, and more useful in your scenario, you can set a flag in a config file. There's some more info about this method…

Hi Janet, I think what you're saying is (1) you need to restrict who can edit a custom field and (2) you need to restrict the value they can enter into the custom field. I don't think you can do either out of the box, but you might check out the "Behaviours plugin" which is now part of "ScriptRunner for JIRA".…

Hi Martin, I didn't even know this feature existed! So thank you for helping me learn something new tonight! :) The "Release Notes" button you're looking for is on a view that's specific to a single version. To get to it, I did the following: 1. Go to your project and click "Project settings" in the left grey sidebar nav.…

Hi Fred, I didn't know the answer to your question but was currious so I looked into it a little bit. The field in your screenshot, "Organizations", is for Service Desk customer portal requests. I found this related feature request: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSDSERVER-4723 It seems the field doesn't display from…

Hi Robin, Just in case it's related to your problem, there's an issue filed here for label problems in JIRA 7.3+. See: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-64000

Hi Loredana, This sounds like a UI bug. May I suggest you report it here: https://support.atlassian.com/contact/? I haven't experienced your exact scenario, but I do have similar visibility issues in JIRA 7. I find when the UI prevents me from seeing something, I can zoom the browser out to 90% and then I can see the…

Hi there, Could one of your admins have created a second custom field with the name "Description"? (You now have two fields with the same display name?) If you find that's not the problem, could you attach a screenshot of your query and result so we can better understand the question? Cheers, Rachel Wright

Hi Atharva, I haven't expericed the same scenario you described, but maybe I can give you a small lead. Check the database table called "moved_issue_key". That's where the DS issue ID to DSUI issue ID mapping lives. Hope this helps a little bit, Rachel Wright

Hi Michaela, The restrictions on those transition buttons are set in your workflow. Yes, you can edit the behaviors to allow additional users to approve or decline. I highly recommend you use groups or roles, which provide the greatest amount of flexibility and also allow other projects to share the same workflow.…

Hi Paul, The first place to check is the Field Configuration for the Issue Type in the project. Next, check for a validator, on the initial "Create" step, in your workflow. * Open your workflow * Choose the "Text" display mode ("Diagram" mode also works, but my screenshot example shows "Text" mode.) * Click on the very…

Hi Anup, in addition to Sam's correct answer, try using one of JIRA's "helper" tools. The Permission Helper uncovers why a user can or cannot interact with an issue. For example, a user isn't in a needed group or project role. Use this tool to start any permission investigation. You can check for the "Assignable User"…

Hi Christian, It sounds like you're trying to add a second value to the "Forward Email" field in your "Mail Handler" on the "Incoming Mail" JIRA Admin Console page. (Admin > System > Incoming Mail) Instead, why don't you modify the Notification Scheme for the project? You can add a "Single Email Address" to the "Issue…

Hi Jeremy, I use an add-on called "JIRA Misc Workflow Extensions" to do this. Use Case: When all child issues are closed, automatically transition the parent so users won't have to do it manually. Implementation: In the parent issue's workflow, add a Post Function, which will only be used by this automatic process. * Add…
