  • I'm not really sure what you're asking. Are you using the Jira Backup feature for administrators? Or are you exporting data from Jira some other way (e.g. searching issues and using Export to create CSV, XML, Excel, or other file types)? What are you trying to do?
  • Yes, it looks like you can use a chart macro within the excerpt macro. I'm using Jira Data Center, and was able to add an Excerpt macro to a test page. In that Excerpt macro, I added a Chart macro. In another page, I added the Excerpt Include macro, referencing the test page. The Chart showed in this other page.…
  • You probably want to check out Atlassian Automation. The basic documentation is here: https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/jira-cloud-automation/ Atlassian also has training you can take: https://university.atlassian.com/student/page/815398-jira-automation-course-description?sid_i=2 I also wrote an article…

  • I've fixed this sort of problem with the burndown/burnup charts by simply changing the Start Time of the Sprint. Set the start time to be immediately after the last "pre-sprint" change. I haven't checked to see if it will change the data shown on the Sprint Report. It's worth a shot, since this is a super easy workaround.
  • Hi @Trudy P Claspill and thanks for your response. It helped solve this puzzle. The key piece of information I was missing was that the visibility of a Sprint is dependent on whether the Sprint is empty or not. To recreate what I was seeing: * Start with one Project that has two different Boards using the same Filter. *…
  • @Colum McAndrew @Denise M Parmenter My article about using Automation with Slack for periodic reminders is here: #JiraHeroes April '22 Spotlight: Mykenna Cepek
  • If I remember correctly, you can configure one or the other as a global setting for all the advanced roadmaps in your instance - either Due Date OR Target End. Likewise, you can specify one field to represent the starting date. The documentation is sparse on the topic: Use custom dates in Advanced Roadmaps If others are…
  • Hi @Tina Maddox. I'm unclear on your use-case. Confluence pages for instruction (e.g. How-To documents) are typically viewed, not edited, by users. So placeholder text doesn't seem to add much value there. For placeholder text to be useful to a user, they would need to be editing the page. You mentioned "instructional…
  • I would think that the built-in Jira Automation could help you do this. By using a Manual Trigger, you can specify the JQL to identify a set of issues, and then operate on each of those issue. Based on what I see, automation can process at most 50,000 issues. I wouldn't go that far, maybe target 5,000 to 10,000 per run,…
  • Priorities are global across the entire Jira instance. Please do vote for the issue @verraf linked. Your vote matters to having things like this fixed eventually in Jira! Jira admins should work together to avoid an excessive quantity of values for global things like Priority, Status, Issue Types, Custom Fields, etc. I've…
  • I haven't encountered this problem before. Hopefully others here can provide some suggestions from their experience. However, I do have some additional thoughts... If the fields with all the cascading options are not required on the create screens, perhaps remove them. If they are on the edit screens, people will still…
  • I think you're on the right track with wanting to use the Lookup Issues action in your rule. We can't really help much without more details about the triggering issue (ticket) and the separate issue. For example, how do you plan to identify the separate issue?
  • Now that you know it's a list, you can iterate on the list as a Smart Value (not in a branch). I'm not sure if that will achieve your goals, but a lot of list processing can be done with Smart Value notation. See the Combined function examples. For more complex handling in Smart Value lists, check out the conditionals you…
  • I'm curious why your Subtasks are in different Sprints? Is it because the parent Story is taking longer than one Sprint? Or are you actually assigning Subtasks to be completed in different Sprints? Or maybe something else? Most Agile teams using Jira follow a guideline like "the team strives to complete all the Stories…
  • No. Jira Cloud backups are of the entire instance (all the projects). However, please note that when you go through the Restore process, it will allow you to restore only a single project. You can experiment with this in your Jira Sandbox to see how it works. Tip: I highly recommend that every admin try a Sandbox restore…
  • Thanks for that info. A few further thoughts: * You might want "XX months" to be > 12 or more, to ensure that you're not impacting any historical reports in Jira that might be useful to the teams. * Confirm retention limits with the business. For example, does Sales or HR need longer retention than Support or Dev teams? *…
  • Another approach is to use a Workflow Validator. I think they can be used for new issues, before they transition to the first state in the workflow. On that transition in the workflow, put a set of "Field required" validators, one for each field. I believe it also allows you to include an error message for the user when…
  • The only data retention I've ever implemented (over a few small/medium sized companies) was for the weekly cloud backups. Since we stored these elsewhere in the cloud (e.g. Box), having a defined retention plan helped in these ways: * Clarity with leadership about what data will be kept (and when data will be deleted). *…
  • Ok, let's pivot. You posted your atlassian-jira.log file, which showed a lot of activity. Based on that snippet, I estimate that the activity shown is occurring about 260 times per second. That could be a tremendous load. So what is it? The log identifies CommentAssignIssue.jspa -- what's that? I found this documentation:…
  • Why does your trigger use the same value for "From status" and "To status". That doesn't make sense to me. Also, can you share a screenshot of the workflow being used by the project you are using for your testing?
  • Have you tried disabling the "Trigger > More options > Execute this rule immediately..." setting? It's pretty clear about performance impact.
  • Could you share a screenshot of the configuration of your trigger?
  • Hmm, hard to say for sure with just this information. Some things to try to discover more about what's happening: * Check the Audit Log for this rule to see if there are errors. * Ensure you have non-zero Original Estimates on the subtasks under the parent issue you are testing. * Use "Log Action" liberally in your rule to…
  • Here are the clues I detect: global rule (i.e. will run for various projects using various project configurations), intermittent errors, and the inability to edit an issue. This suggests that there is a configuration difference between projects causing this problem. You will probably also see consistency in which projects…
  • You could also consider creating a custom field (e.g. Orig Reporter) that automation can fill in when issues are created. That way, when you change Reporter, the original value can persist. I think you can also set the screen configuration so that this field would not be editable (but Automation would be able to set it). A…
  • @Dave LIAO and @Fabienne Gerhard and @nina_schmidt and anyone else who friended me in Pokemon Go (since I publicly posted my friend code above)... I'd like to coordinate the timing of becoming a Best Friend in the game (which can be worth an extra 100,000 XP for both of us!). Please reach out to me on Linked In, where I am…
  • Rule executions for each rule are listed in the Audit Log, available for each rule, in the area where you create and edit rules: https://YourDomain.atlassian.net/jira/settings/automation The "Audit Log" area lists every recent execution (subject to quantity/expiration time limtations that I don't recall at the moment).…
  • If you can view the task.svg icon in your browser but not in an Outlook email, that sounds like it might be an Outlook thing. More on that later... The second method I showed is using two numerical values, and it may be confusing. In my example, 10000 and 10001 are what Automation sees for {{issueType.id}}, so you can…
  • I doubt it can be deleted. Don't worry about it. Providing the link, as you did, will help others quickly get the answer. Thanks!
