I mentioned in my OP: "We happen to also have the PowerScripts and ScriptRunner add-ons." This turned out to be a key to the solution. We did have function name conflicts due to multiple Jira add-ons being installed. A Jira Admin disabled a couple of PowerScript functions, and I can now use the ScriptRunner functions.…

Adaptavist support (the folks who make ScriptRunner) suggests that a likely cause is a conflict in function names between multiple Jira add-ons. Documentation on the topic here. That seems likely to explain what's going on. I'm offering this partial solution while I wait for our Jira Admins to explore solutions in our…

Short answer: no. As noted in the documentation, the Space Admin permission allows for the creation of templates. But there is no fine-grained Space Admin permission setting just for templates. There is an existing request to enhance Confluence Server to do this. Please vote for it: *…

Do the Stories and Bugs have any child/parent relationships to the Epics? If so, how? Also, are you using issue Links at all?
-
It's actually a bit subtle. The user interface here for Automation is a bit clunky. It looks like there are only a few drop-down menu choices (like "Copy from issue", "Copy from parent", etc). But you can also type in a smart value:

Thanks for calling out the existing bug here, @Andy Heinzer If you're reading this thread, this bug likely affects you, so please go vote for that bug. I do want to observe that the workaround is undesirable for several reasons: * This numerical custom field accessor format "cf[12345]" is user-hostile. A human can't tell…
-
@Andy Heinzer identified an existing bug related to this: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-77541 Be sure to go there, vote for that bug, and optionally add yourself as a watcher. It's unlikely that it will get fixed without lots of votes.

@Kerrod Williams _M20_ - thanks for pointing out that SmartValue! Other helpful data in user records in Smart Values: * active - whether the user's account is active or not * displayName - the full name in the user's profile * name - the username in the user's profile (aka userID) * timeZone - the time zone based on the…

I agree with @Alexander Bondarev on this one. Resolution is strongly preferred to having multiple "Done" statuses. Why? * Setting the Resolution is hardwired in Jira to the strikeout of the Jira Key. So you always want this field to be set when an issue transitions to Done. * Having just one Done terminal status is the…

To reiterate my question: why can't I get the parentsOf() function to work?

Was making ET-7133 a subordinate of DPMWM-177 a recent change? If you look directly at the details of the ET-7133 issue, do you see that it contains a link to the DPMWM-177 issue? Yes, both '7133 and '6841 show this: If you try the same filter and plug in ET-6841 instead, do you get any results? Nope: Has a full re-index…

Still nothing: That last query was to convince myself that whatever was after "in" really mattered. ET-7133 exists, is an Epic, and has a Feature issue as a parent.

As WW alludes to, Atlassian does have a way to contribute feature requests (more here). But many of us feel that's a broken process, overly relying on votes to put things on their radar. If you've got support, I would engage them. Get your money's worth from talking to someone at Atlassian about your needs. On a good day…

It's not clear to me if some ScriptRunner functions aren't enabled or what. I have project-admin privs (not Jira admin privs), so how would I know? I can say that many functions like parentsOf() and portfolioParentsOf() do not appear in the auto-complete when I'm constructing JQL: And when I try to use them to return even…
-
The large company I'm currently working for has a small team of Jira Admins who help with such requests. As a ScrumMaster with only Project and Board Admin privs, I partner with them when I need to access privs beyond what I can do.

Bingo! @Bill Sheboy to the rescue! I changed the rule from using a Scheduled (project-less) trigger to using a Manual trigger, which put the execution in the context of a specific issue (and project). Bill's smart value worked, as did one of my original guesses, as shown below. Since this is a single-project (not Global)…

Not that I'm aware of, sorry. I'm wondering if there is too much content per page? TLDR is a real thing. Probably not much you can do about that, just thought I'd make that observation.

Confluence has "macros" which add functionality to pages. One such macro is the "Table of contents", which is extremely configurable and can easily handle the requirement you mention. More about it here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/table-of-contents-macro-182682099.html

I know this answer is tagged for Cloud, but I could use the answer for Data Center. I've tried both: {{project.properties.snji-comments}} {{project.legacyProperties.snji-comments}} The value is set, as I can retrieve it with: https://jira.company.com/rest/api/2/project/PROJ/properties/snji-comments

Jira maintains a history of changes to issues. So by reviewing that history log, you can tell when an issue changed from one status to another status. You can see this in an issue, under "History" or "Activity". So for a given issue, you can review the history/activity log and figure it out manually. However, there isn't…

Whenever I'm having trouble with JQL, I always go back to the Issue Search, and ensure that the JQL works as expected there. Auto-complete works best there. Once my query works in the Issue Search, then I'll copy/paste that JQL someplace else (e.g. in a Filter, or Quick Filter, or Confluence Jira Search, etc).

Fields can be added to NG (team-managed) projects, but they are specific to that team. So a custom "Pair" field could be added (to all issue types) in a team-managed project, and used in searching, reporting, queries, etc. -- but only within that one project. I haven't had access to team-managed projects in a while, but I…

@Carleen Wood - What is it you are trying to do? Let's start with the problem you're trying to solve, and look at specific implementations and solutions after we understand that.
-
Have you already checked out the built-in features available in Jira Advanced Roadmaps?
-
Jira only allows one user at a time to be assigned to an issue. I believe, though, that anyone can log time to an issue. Most of the organizations I work with are using Tempo Timesheets to help with logging time, so I can't test the non-Tempo use case. Tempo definitely allows anyone to log time to any issue. A custom field…

I'll try this again, a little more forcefully. DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS HERE. Please ask your questions using the "Ask the community" link at the top of this page. This comment section is intended to discuss the article that @Daniel Ebers so thoughtfully shared.

See my post this date (above).

@Benjamin Dains - I was working on something similar recently - on Jira Data Center. See if this works for your use case: When I ran the rule, "Sample Sprint 4" was the active (open) sprint, and "Sample Sprint 2" was closed a while ago. Note that this solution will work regardless of the order sprints are listed in the…

For anyone else with @Ashish Jain's problem, review the Columns area of your Board, and ensure that the "Set Resolution"- checkbox is checked for your terminal (Done aka green) Statuses.
