Hi, the team is working on a feature to reference existing attachments. It will be rolling out to Jira first, but hopefully not too long for Confluence. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65344
-
Hi there, where are you pasting from?
-
Hi @Peter Natale happy to chat. You can find a time with me here: https://calendly.com/owallis In the meantime if you paste an Office link into Atlassian it will create a Smartlink to the file. So you can collaborate on said files inside Confluence. This Marketplace app also has good support for Office files:…

Hi, where were you pasting the images from? An existing Confluence page? If so did the page have any restrictions on it? Or were you pasting from an external source?
-
Hi at the moment yes this is by design. However the team are working on adding the ability to reference existing attachments: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-72208

Hi @[deleted] I heard back from JSM. This is a known issue they are planning to fix in the next quarter. p.s. I'm a Brit too, small world!
-
Howdy NZ! Think I may see the issue. The above is built via Jira Service Management - which is not fully using my Media components yet (Confluence are). Let me ping one of the JSM PMs to this thread to see if they know a workaround.
-
Hmm... that's very odd. I'm the Cloud PM who looks after Media - and it really should be opening in a preview window. Not sure what timezone you are in (I am in Sydney) but if things matchup feel free to find a time and we can try to figure it out https://calendly.com/owallis
-
Sure, once you have published your page, when someone else looks at it, they will be able to click on the image and open it in a preview window.
-
Hi @Pierre-Eric P. this feature is planned for Cloud: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65749. Although no ETA yet sorry. This ticket is being looked at which may help sooner: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65344 - although this would require a change to your workflow (i.e. using Confluence as the…
-
Hi James, was this related to space permissions too?
-
Hi @Arnd Layer thanks for your message. The Recent files were not actually referring to images or documents already in the system. They were a duplicate of files attached - a complete other copy. I agree the ability to reference images or documents already in the system would be useful, Jira and Confluence are working out…
-
@Volker Jakob good point well made! I'll get the wording on the ticket updated.
-
Thanks for the question. When your colleagues click on the PDF file there is a download icon at the top right. Hope this helps.
-
This functionality is missing but the team are figuring out how to bring it to Cloud; https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65344
-
Hi Linda, I think in this instance it would be worth you dropping an email to Atlassian support. They would be able to take a look at your site and try and figure out what is going on. I could try and offer a few vague suggestions (i.e. were the images hosted externally, can you still see the images on the attachments…

Hi @Renee Aper you can get notified via following https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/blog/2021 and see all upcoming changes.
-
Hi @Guy Cardwell no need to apologise. I understand your perspective. Very happy to chat more if timezones allow https://calendly.com/owallis (I'm based in Sydney). My calendar is always open to anyone wanting to talk about files, attachments and video.
-
@Guy Cardwell thanks for this discussion. Apologies if my point didn't come across well. What I was hoping to explain was that the previous Recents feature didn't actually solve the job of letting you reference files already attached to a page or space. Recents weren't really Recents - they were a whole other fileset. So…
-
Hi @Guy Cardwell that's correct, this change also affects Confluence. Recent files were actually a complete copy of the files already attached to a page, rather than a reference to files already existing on other pages. The relevant ticket to add files from an existing page or space…
-
Thanks for the message @Torben Giesselmann For accidental deletions you could use the versioning system to skip back to a previous version. Plus if you click the 'more actions' button at the top right of the page you can access the attachments panel to find files uploaded to the page. Copying and pasting from the…
-
Hi @Torben Giesselmann this functionality has been unshipped. https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Updates-to-your-file-uploading-experiences/ba-p/1592157 I'll talk to Confluence to get the documentation updated.
-
Hi @Fatou-Maty Diouf we've unshipped the Recents feature. For more details please check out https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Updates-to-your-file-uploading-experiences/ba-p/1592157 All the best Owen
-
Thanks @Saskia Carolan - actually I just started talking about linking to existing attachments with the Jira team last week. Happy to chat with you more about this: https://calendly.com/owallis
-
Hi @Callum Beney we've unshipped the Cloud picking feature. For more details please check out https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Updates-to-your-file-uploading-experiences/ba-p/1592157 All the best Owen

Hi @Juanma @Kerrie - this should now be fixed for new webm files. We're looking into how we can fix the files that were affected during the short window where the bug looks to have affected you both.
-
Thanks @Mitch Abrams - we had a bug with webm which looking at the date of your post you would have been affected by. This is fixed now. We're also working on reprocessing the files affected by the bug.
-
Hi @Kerrie this looks to be a bug, my team are looking into this now.
-
Hi thanks for raising this, my team is looking into the issue now.
-
Hi @Mitch Abrams Could you let me know what format the videos are in? Thanks Owen
