How do you live without 'Smart querying'

Question

It seems like Atlassian has retired 'Smart querying' now in Jira Cloud 😪 In my opinion it was a really handy feature - we have > 150 Projects within our instance - so smart queries like " updated:yesterday" or "my " were very helpful. It's not as easy to use predefined filters for that number of Projects. How do you deal with that situation? Maybe voting on this issue might also be a way to convince Atlassian that this is a missing feature: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-99244

Hi @Dieter Guthmann,

Not a full replacement, but you can at least get the quick lookup back with a custom search engine in the browser.

In Chrome/Edge: Settings → Search engine → Manage search engines and site search → Add.

Firefox does the same with a bookmark keyword. Use https://YOURSITE.atlassian.net/secure/QuickSearch.jspa?searchString=%s as the URL and something short like j as the shortcut.

Then j ABC-123 in the address bar opens that work item directly. Anything else, like j login error, runs a text search. Jira works out which one it is.

updated:yesterday and my style queries still need JQL.

Hi @Dieter Guthmann, the shortcuts are being retired, so the closest thing left is their JQL equivalents. You type those under Filters > View all work items after switching the search to JQL, not in the quick search box.

The staff comment on JRACLOUD-99244 says the feature is being deprecated, toggle included. Support can review workarounds during the transition. The ticket says they may temporarily re-enable the toggle on a site, but I'd treat that as a bridge.

I tested these on a scratch site and they run fine:
project = KEY AND updated >= startOfDay(-1) AND updated < startOfDay()
assignee = currentUser() AND project = KEY

The 150 projects don't need 150 filters. A filter without a project clause covers every project the user can see.

Saved once, this one is the whole open queue:
assignee = currentUser() AND resolution = EMPTY ORDER BY updated DESC
