How to remove a collaborator's ability to restrict folders within a space ?

Question

Hello,

I would like to remove the ability for collaborators in a Confluence space to restrict access to folders or files.

Could you please guide me through the steps required to disable this permission while allowing them to retain their other existing permissions?

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards

Hi @Lydia NOVERCAT ,

I'm guessing you're a space admin and a person who can configure permissions?

As Kitefold said, it depends on which permission model you're using, but with both, it should be fairly simple. With roles, if you go and configure the collaborator role (meaning, you'll end up with custom role), there's an option Manage access to individual content which is what you're looking for.

You can find the docs here: Create and manage custom roles 📚

Cheers,

Tobi

Hi Lydia,

The steps depend on whether your site uses the newer space roles or the older permission checkboxes.

If your space uses roles (you'll see roles like Admin, Manager, Collaborator and Viewer under Space settings > Users): the default roles can't be edited, so you can't remove one permission from Collaborator itself. Instead, a Confluence admin can create a custom role. Go to Confluence settings > Permissions > Space roles > Create custom role, give it the same permissions as Collaborator, but leave out "Manage user access to content". That's the permission that lets people add or change restrictions. Then in the space, go to Space settings > Users and switch those people or groups from Collaborator to the new role. If you don't see "Create custom role", your site or plan may not offer it yet.

If your space uses the older permission grid: go to Space settings > Permissions, edit the group or user, and untick Restrictions: Add/Delete. They keep everything else, such as adding and editing pages.

Either way, restrictions people have already added stay in place, so a space admin may want to review those separately.

Hope that helps!
