When a form is submitted for example, is it possible to create a comment in the Jira issue with a link to the form. My guess is not after my search of functionality and configuration.
Hey, Data Center explains it.
The "Form submitted" trigger from the answer above is documented for Cloud. It isn't in the Jira Data Center automation trigger list, so you're not looking in the wrong place.
One way to get close, if your workflow can take a status change:
The comment then lands in the feed when the status changes, which gives you the timeline marker you want.
The catch is that it needs a status change. If a form can be submitted without moving the issue, this won't cover it, and the Cloud trigger is the cleaner answer once you migrate.
Hi,
Yes, Jira automation can do this. The only limit is that the link opens the work item, not one specific form.
1. Trigger: Form submitted. Form triggers are space-specific, so create the rule in the space's automation, not as a global rule. In the trigger you can pick forms: with no form selected the rule runs when any form is submitted; with one form, only when that form is submitted; with several, only when all of them have been submitted on the work item. (Jira automation triggers)
2. Action: Comment on work item. The comment accepts smart values, and you can set its visibility. For example:
Form submitted: {{issue.url}}
For a Jira Service Management request, {{issue.url.customer}} gives the customer portal link instead of the agent view. (smart values for work items)
{{issue.url.customer}}
I did not find a documented smart value or URL that opens a single form, so the link takes people to the work item, where the form sits in its Forms section. Since each rule can be tied to one form, you can name the form in the comment text, for example one rule per form.

Hello @Colin Owen
Can you tell us more about your use case? What problem are you trying to solve by providing a link to a specific form attached to a work item? Who needs to be able to click that link and see the submitted form - an agent, a customer, some other type of user?
Is this for JSM Data Center or JSM Cloud?
Thank you for the responses.
We do not see an Automation trigger for Form Submitted and so this is not an option. Unless I am looking in the wrong place.
We have Jira Data Center and plans are in place to move to the cloud. The use case is that maybe we want to collect various pieces of information. The form itself works fine, but if you want to see when the form was submitted in comparison to the comment feed, this is not so easy. Inserting a comment when the form was submitted would allow us to easily see where this was completed in the issue timeline.
Hi @Colin Owen
Ciro’s workaround with a status change plus an “Issue transitioned” rule is the cleanest native option on Data Center today.
Another approach you might consider is Smart Forms for Jira (developed by my team), which is available for both Cloud and Data Center:
That gives you the timeline marker you want, with a direct link to the form.
