Allow Quick Filters to support OR logic (or customizable operators) when multiple filters are select

Question

Hi Atlassian Team,

Currently, Jira board Quick Filters work strictly with an AND condition when multiple filters are selected.

While this works for narrowing down issues, many teams (especially Scrum teams managing multiple assignees or components) often need an OR condition. For example, I want to quickly view issues assigned to Developer A OR Developer B, but not necessarily both at the same time.

Having to create a separate combined Quick Filter for every possible combination (e.g., A+B, B+C+D) is not scalable and clutters the board.

Feature Suggestion:Please introduce an option to configure Quick Filters with selectable operators (AND / OR), or allow users to toggle between AND/OR logic when multiple quick filters are active.

One more idea for the combined JQL quick filter approach that @Tansu Akdeniz and @Tomislav Tobijas described: if the combinations you need roughly follow team lines, you can keep the number of filters small by filtering on a group or team instead of listing individual people:

assignee in membersOf("frontend-devs")

One filter then covers "anyone on that team", and new team members are picked up automatically without editing the JQL

If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, JXL for Jira handles this kind of ad hoc filtering without predefined combinations. A JXL sheet shows the work items of a JQL query (for example your board's filter), and you filter directly in the column headers:

* In the Assignee column filter, pick Developer A and Developer B to see work items assigned to either of them.
* Filters on different columns combine with AND, so you can still narrow down further, e.g. by Status.
* Text filters accept OR, AND, NOT and parentheses, e.g. (frontend OR backend) AND NOT legacy on a Components column.

Column filters are personal, so everyone can set and clear their own. Combinations you use often can be saved as views and shared with the team.

There is an open feature request for this question, as mentioned by @Tomislav Tobijas.

@Tansu Akdeniz is also right. You can create other quick filters that combine JQL clauses in a new quick filter.

Yes this can be tedious, but quick filters are needed to filter boards or list views.

If you need to combine filters, is the list view or board filter not gathering to much information?

You could also decided to have multiple boards that show, based on a filter already more limited number of work items on a board, so quick filters are much less required.
