Issue filter JQL to find issues based on status history and assignee

Question

Is it possible to search the issue history for an issue filter with JQL and return all issues where  status was "xx example status" and assignee= "specific assignee"

It seems when trying this query and using the was operator that issues are being returned for assignee for all issues they were assigned to, instead of only the issues they were assigned to at a specific status in the history.  Is there another way to write the query, or is this a limitation?

I'm also looking for an answer to this one, as the work progresses the assignee changes so I'm looking for a filter for specific assignee when Status is 'In progress' I would have thought some JQL filter would enable this?

Thank you for the feedback.  So just to confirm- are you saying that even though Jira uses assignee for many current issue filters, but when trying to search issue history that you can't use JQL to find the issue that had assignee of 'JoeTest' at the status of 'In Progress'?

This seems to be a very common query to need to see what past issues where completed by a certain person in a certain status.  I am using issue 'status' to indicate 'In Progress' to be in development for example. So now I want to find all completed issues for a specific person where the status was 'In Progress'.
