You can change the format for the project key in

System -> General Configuration -> Advanced Settings -> jira.projectkey.pattern

Please refer below link for documention, as per this All letters used in the project key must be from the Modern Roman Alphabet and upper case

The whole of Jira is coded to assume uppercase letters for project keys - even if you could change the input format, you'd need to rewrite a swathe of Jira and its Apps
