Roadmaps of multiple projects

We are currently looking into options for an application do to project issue tracking. We are very interested in Jira, but what is of great importance to us, is that we have a general overview/roadmap of all the projects we will be working on in the future.

For example: every order/project that has to finished in Q1 of 2019 we want to see in a roadmap/overview with a general forecast of time/story points.

With this we can make promises better to our customers when a new order comes in.

Is this possible with Jira or with a plugin with Jira? At the moment, we are just using a kanban board with columns Q4, Q1, Q2.. to get a general overview of our orders.

But we want to have it all integrated into one application, and I really hope this can be done with Jira or a plugin.

There are several possible solutions. The first thing that comes to mind would be Portfolio for Jira. It might be a good idea for you to have a look at this case study to see whether it might help.

A lot depends on what your projects look like. How big are they, how do you schedule them (are you an agile organisation or do you run projects in a more waterfall way), are your teams dedicated project teams or are they involved in a ton of other stuff as well, ...

All these parameters may impact what solution is best. But if you imagine that Jira helps you with one gigantically important step - making your work explicit and transparently accessible in one single place - you can be assured that there is a scheduling/planning/reporting solution that fits your needs too.

Hi Walter,

thanks for the answer. We are a company that has been working with a waterfall approach, but we are trying to get some more agile mindset in our teams and that's why we are looking into jira. We do not have dedicated teams, we do A LOT of other stuff as well. At this point we get lost in the amount of work and we do not have the right tools to visualize everything to get our planning up to date.

We urgently need the tools to visualize all the projects and roadmaps and so on..

But thanks in advance, I will start looking at the suggestions you've made.

Be warned if looking into Jira. We were looking for the same, and again the answer as it always seems to be is OOTB Jira doesnt provide it, but you can buy an add on for this simple thing. We end up paying $10 per month for every little thing that Jira doesn't do and soon all the add-ons cost you a fortune.

We have purchased Jira, but we are currently experiencing the same hassle.

Every little thing needs to be purchased! Maybe we should start looking into another tool (Redmine, Monday,...) that provides something OOTB for this issue.
