How to make field appear in search filter

Hi,

I am try to filter issues by a new field i have created called security level however this field does not appear in the search filter under all criteria.

Can someone advise how i can add this field to the search filter. It appears everywhere else on the edit screens etc

When you say "search filter" - where do you mean? For example, my brain rattled off a list of places:

In the drop-down on the simple search in the issue navigator
As a field on offer when typing JQL into a complex search
In a gadget field selection
On a quick filter for a board

I'm sure there's more it might apply to. I'm also sure you are clear on where you mean, it's probably just me over-thinking it.

When you click on more and in under all criteria the field security level does not appear.

you can click on columns drop down at right side, there you will get your field shown

Perfect, thanks for clearing that up for my Friday-addled brain!

There are a few reasons it might not appear in that drop-down.

It does not have a "searcher"
It is of a type that does not support a simple search
There are criteria set in the system fields that rule it out from appearing because it is not valid for any of the issues that could appear.

On the first two, go to admin -> issues -> custom fields, and find your new field. That display should tell you the "type" of field (select list? Radio buttons? Something odd from an App?), and to the right, if you click "edit", you should be offered the name of the field to change, and underneath, select a searcher. Most fields default to having an appropriate searcher, so just check it is not blank.

The third one is a bit more contextual.

Let's say you've set your field to only be available in project ABC (in the "context" given in the field list as above for type and searcher - screens and field configuration do not matter for this).

If you then select "Project = XYZ" in the simple search, Jira knows none of the issues can have the new field, so it drops the field from the list.

Understood. So a bit more context i need to bulk update around 1612 issues i have managed to bulk update 1000 issues however do not know how to bulk update the rest since i cant even filter by the field security level. I wanted to filter by Security Level = none and then update the rest according to the name specified on the security level.

Would you be able to advise if there is any other way?
