Identify Jira Core & Jira Software

Question

Hi,

How to identify difference between Jira Core & Jira Software.

After installing latest version (7.12.3) or (Jira Software 8.0.0-EAP05 (Linux 64 Bit Installer)),  After hitting url, i see Jira Core in blue color on left hand side of browser .

But after installing atlassian-jira-software-7.9.2-x64.bin - i see only JIRA written in left hand side of the browser.

so JIRA & JIRA software are both same ?

Thanks

Hi,

Actually there is no more "JIRA" as before. Before Jira Core & Jira Software, JIRA meant JIRA Core and JIRA + JIRA Agile meant JIRA Software. Right now there is no definition for JIRA per se. But when Jira Software is installed, there is a blue JIRA written on the page as you said. You can say that now JIRA is a general name for all the apps. Also this infographic is very enlightening regarding the matter:

Hello,

Jira Core and Jira Software are not the same. Jira Core is more like for business teams and offers less and simple solutions whereas Jira Software offers more agile related solutions. Check out this link:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/confeval/jira-software-evaluator-resources/jira-software-which-jira-do-i-need

Jira Software:

In Jira Software, you are provided with some additional agile functionality, including the ability plan agile work from project backlog to sprint. You'll have fully customizable Kanban and Scrum boards, the ability to estimate time for issues as you prioritize your backlog, and robust reporting features, ranging from burndown charts to velocity measurements.

Jira Core:

Jira Core takes this workflow engine and caters it for business teams to develop organized, easy to use, task-oriented projects. Whether the tasks needed are a simple to-do list or a robust 7 step workflow with heavy automation, Jira Core is built to accommodate all of your requirements.

You can also check which is installed on the Applications page:
