will Bitbucket & Jira issue integration backdate?

Hi, the company I'm currently working for use a GIT repository and JIRA, every time they push code to the repository they've added the issue number e.g IR-209 as a comment.

We're now planning on installing and integrating with Bitbucket and I'm curious, once I migrate the repository to Bitbucket will it automatically create links based on historical pushes?

Yes. If the Jira issue keys are part of the commit message then it should be linked automatically once you complete the application link of the two applications.
